Quick Activities Under 10 Minutes Can Boost Longevity, Study Reveals

Ever thought those small daily tasks could be a ticket to better health? Surprisingly, actions as brief as a short walk or a quick house chore might be more beneficial than you’d think.

A new, extensive study from The Lancet Public Health journal suggests that just minutes of daily physical activity, regardless of how minor, are tied to decreased chances of severe health events, including strokes, heart attacks, and even premature death.

Interestingly, those who sprinkled in just 5 to 10 minutes of movement throughout their day appeared to reap the most health rewards. Yet, even a mere 1 to 3 minutes made a noticeable difference.

The insights draw from over 25,000 UK adults aged 42 to 78, who wore activity trackers for two full years. The study kept a close watch on these participants, tracking their health outcomes for nearly eight years. A key detail? Most participants weren’t hitting the gym; their activity bursts were often below 10 minutes and part of everyday life.
