As Halloween festivities rise, so do accidents involving kids. An alarming 3,200 children yearly faced Halloween-related mishaps from 2019 to 2022. Notably, candies aren’t the main concern.
So, what’s the genuine concern on Halloween? Pediatric emergency experts warn about:
- Ignoring safe walking rules: Cars are a top hazard for kids on Halloween. As they move from house to house, it’s easy to forget basic safety. Using sidewalks, paying attention, and reducing distractions can prevent accidents.
- Opting for dark, unseen costumes: Costumes in black or dark shades might make kids hard to spot. Bright or reflective costumes can make a difference.
- Neglecting the need for light: Night trick-or-treating requires clear vision. Carrying a light, whether a flashlight or lantern, is advised to avoid stumbles or falls.
